ET
since rewatching ET in powderhorn park a few weeks ago, i've had this idea brewing in my head. the glowing heart scene reminded me of no one other than jesus himself! tonight after drawing some doodles for my roommates i decided to flesh this idea out until the bitter end. not bad for watercoloring with 99 cent roseart watercolors.

monday, methlab monday
today i had: a cup of iced coffee at work,
came home and had a vault,
then made a pot of kona coffee,
went to a meeting completely pressed,
and afterwards had another vault.
midway through all this madness i came up with and started a new cross-stitch pattern!
i've almost finished the first line (3 letters to go!) and then there's probably a million stitches left.
hopefully i can keep plugging away and won't lose steam like i did on my last 3 projects.
there's gonna have to be a lot more caffeine in my future either way! onward christian soldiers!

hallowed bean thy name
another methlab monday printmaking mini-project. again - dedicated to coffee, but this time to the heavenly bean.
turns into..
definitely going to make bean-themed patches from these. i made a few on flowered patterned fabric. in the next few days i'm going to hit up a few coffeeshops and try to get my hands on some some burlap coffee sacks to cut up and print these and the coffee cups on.

methlab mondays prevail!
now with linocuts!
the linoleum, halfcut with a rough sketch.
i used chewed up pages from The Rebel by Albert Camus for testing prints. 2.5x3 inches. i might make patches from them.

i got 99 problems, but a post ain't one...
99th post, huzzah!
i picked up the USA bulletin board at a thrift store back home this week and stuck it in our kitchen as a "community bulletin board". it was missing a little something, something so i started methlab monday a little early (see also: sunday at 2:30AM) and voila! we already have a few fun events up there like Propagandhi at the Triple Rock and Chew & Swallow Gastrointestinal Circus. Not to mention a lovely note from our friends at RAN thanking us for letting them use our kitchen to prepare for our BBQ celebration today!
General Mills has adopted a sustainable palm oil policy, check out more information here!

haus decorating!
i'm all moved in to my new haus, and still don't have internet. molly just moved in and holly will be moving in shortly. soon we will have a fullhaus! i've been keeping busy by mainly working a lot and doing little projects here and there... for example, i decorated the crafthutch on monday!
that's all for now folks! i need to find some recipes on okra before i head out and enjoy the day.
if tape/glue is sticky. and knives/scissors are sharp. then pens & markers would be.....? so far the best we've come up with is ink.

a methlab revisited..
it's been a while since i've been able to partake in a methlab monday. partly due to craftivities being moved to wednesday night hardtimes and partly due to sheer laziness. today, however, was a new day, in fact, it was my only day off this week. the only day where i don't have to be at work, a meeting, or a work meeting all week. so it was decided that today would be an all day craft-a-thon. i got up around noon (sleeping in is awesome) and ran and bought some toilet paper. made a few texts to get the crew together and by 3:30 the gang was all here!
after a short span of chit-chatting, we started to get our craft-on. while i didn't actually accomplish a granny square or anything of the crocheted manner, i did manage to get my slipstitch to look good. i continued to craft after some of my friends left, and then more came back and i continued to craft! at this point i switched to xstitching to continue working on my very botched edition of this pattern.

when life gives you a goat, paint that shit GOLD
my mom likes to say that when i go thrifting that i don't buy weird things, i buy the really weird things. case in point? a framed goat sculpture. as soon as i saw it i knew i had to buy it, paint it gold, and hang it in our living room... and voila!

{LLL} sneak peak
sneak peak of what i've been stitching for the past few days.
very basic xstitchiness with a color scheme i'm quite proud of... should be done with within the next few days and then i'd like to try my hand at a portrait series in honor of Women's History Month.

om nom nom
the newly constructed free art bin in our basement! there's lots of floss, fabric, flowers, and other knick knacks to fuckaround with. very cool! much thanks to viki who donated most of the stuff. i have my own to add here shortly. i will be making a banner that reads "take what you need the rest is greed" (also my blog's motto) soon. isn't it a nice creepy little craft shrine?
after i did that i got a little stir crazy and brought out the embroideries again! it's been a while since i last did some chain stitching. a friend of a friend asked for a piece based off of this image:
and this what i was able to come up with:
(edited with a better picture)
&&& one more thing, for my music monday i've been listening to a lot of local hip/hop (doomtree & rhymesayers respectively)... here is a song i've been digging:

tonight consisted of making more whore patches (11 total, 4 different types) and redoing our Hippie Jihad screenprint. i love simple silk-screen printing. i also conspired for our coffee shop drawing up a sickle coffee cup and doing some other random doodles. i'll post pictures of the patches when i have some better lighting tomorrow and i might throw a few up on my etsy.
that's how all pretentious designers hold their prints right?
that's the test print, abby put one on a t-shirt and i made another patch :)

working on my first pattern for a sassy feminist patch. once i complete it, i'll upload it for your enjoyment/use. here's a sneak peak:
today was the first day of classes at the university of minnesota and my first (official) day as a college dropout. how does one spend their time when they don't have to go to class? get up early as fuck, drink way to much coffee, and protest General Mills & Cargill! today i was proud to be part of a 42 person caravan of twincities activists to take part in the bannering of general mills headquarters with the Rainforest Action Network. While GM preaches sustainability and transparency, they are currently in cahoots with Cargill in destroying rainforests by using palm oil. findout more at www.theproblemwithpalmoil.org.

last night halfway through a grey's anatomy marathon (we watched the entire season 5 on dvd) i started my very first cross stitch. i picked up a tiny little kit at joanne's a while back, but never got around to it with the holidaze rush. i did most of it last night, and finished up the last bit this morning. i'm definitely looking forward to doing more xstitch in the future.

tonight was a good craft night. recently my friends and i started a feminist art circle & while it's lacking on the feminist side, the art part is going very well. at one point we had both the livingroom and dining room filled with people, some i didn't know, working on projects. i'm excited in the next coming weeks to start doing it two nights a week (monday/wednesday) and to start incorporating films and discussion & good food. viki made a very unvegan, but oh so delicious quiche and i needle pointed from 6pm to about a halfhour ago. i completed my first real (not practice) needlepoint! i can't upload photos because it's a gift for a friend, but i will make sure to do so after i give it away.
i also took, for the first time since living at the deadbird hornhaus, a nap today in my amazing queen sized bed. lately my sleep schedule has been sleep till 2pm stay awake til 6 am so there hasn't been any real justification to nap. but today i had the perfect reasons: i worked from 9:30-2pm without any coffee. after work, i biked home in the very cold weather and jumped into bed.
tomorrow, i'm going to make a joanne's run for cross-stitching & embroidery materials and weather permitting hangout with my lovely friend kelsey.
